The MCFA General Assembly and workshop on soft skills will take place in Rome on November the 30th and December the 1st.

The MCFA is delighted to propose this workshop, and you are warmly invited to participate. The need of some training on soft skills has been often pointed out by participants to MCFA activities. Please go the workshop website for further information and register soon!

Furthermore, as the quorum has not been reached at the first General Assembly in Catania, a second General Assembly will be organized in Rome on the second day of the workshop (December the 1st), with the same agenda as the first General Assembly. This event is intended to be a moment for MCFA members to discuss about the life of the association and to make decisions, plans and suggestions for the following year. MCFA full members (2012 and life-time) are invited to participate to this meeting. Registration to the General Assembly can be made through the same form as registration to the workshop (but please note that no registration fees are requested if you participate to the General Assembly only).

The election of the new Administrative Board will take place during the General Assembly. Candidatures to become part of the board are welcome until November the 25th and can be made using this form; the current candidatures can be seen in this table.

Documents (activity and financial reports) for the General Assembly will be posted on a page which is accessible to MCFA members logged in to the website. Please contact treasurer@mariecurie.org if you are a full member and have trouble accessing this page.

MCFA full members (2012 and life-time) are invited to participate to this meeting and to register using this form. If the quorum is not reached, a second General Assembly will be organized, probably on 1st December. The preliminary agenda of the meeting is:

  1. Approbation du rapport moral / Approval of the activity report
  2. Approbation du rapport financier et du budget / Approval of the financial report and budget
  3. Décharge aux administrateurs / Discharge to the current board members
  4. Élection des nouveaux administrateurs / Election of the new board members

The election of the new Administrative Board will take place during the AGA. Candidatures to become part of the Board are now closed; they can be seen in this table.

Online questionnaire for young researchers

October 2012 — MCFA is currently running an online questionnaire for young researchers in order to understand better the needs, expectations and challenges they face. The questionnaire focuses specifically on young researchers (MSc and PhD students as well as postdocs) therefore we would like to have your input about your own experiences. Although the participation is anonymous, you will be informed about the outcome of the survey through our website. We would appreciate if you could dedicate ~10 minutes of your time to fill out the form.

54th Symposium of the International Association for Vegetation Science IAVS - Lyon, FRANCE - 20 - 24 June 2011

the 54th Symposium of the International Association for Vegetation Science – IAVS

Lyon 2011

  Domaine de Rockefeller, 20 - 24 June 2011

The International Association for Vegetation Science (IAVS) is a worldwide union of scientists and others interested in theoretical and practical studies of vegetation: its composition and structure, history, classification, distribution, ecology, dynamics, management and uses in the landscape. The main goals of the IAVS are to facilitate personal contacts among vegetation scientists all over the world and to promote research in all aspects of vegetation science and its applications.

The 2011 Edition of the Symposium will be held in Lyon France. All aspects of plant ecology are welcome, and the special encouraged theme will be: vegetation in and around water-patterns, processes and threats.

The Symposium will offer the opportunity for contacts and exchange of knowledge about all aspects of vegetation science through lectures, workshops, poster sessions and excursions.

We invite you to participate through submission of abstracts for oral and poster sessions, and we encourage you to propose new topics and sessions !

The special theme is motivated by the particularly high vulnerability of vegetation communities in wetlands and aquatic ecosystems in the framework of global change. We hope this symposium will promote and reinforce discussions and international collaborations about all aspects of vegetation science, but most particularly about these threatened communities.

This symposium will also offer the opportunity to present to a large international community the exceptional ecological heritage of the Rhône-Alpes Region. Several mid symposium excursions are planed for the area around the city of Lyon, which will present several aspects of this biodiversity: wetlands, peatlands, calcareous grasslands, lakes and mountainous-forested ecosystems. A visit to the City of Lyon and the Botanical garden Parc de la Tête d’Or will also be available for the symposium participants.

EuroNanoForum 2011 - 30th May to 1st June 2011 - Budapest, Hungary

Start Date:
Mon, 2011-05-30
End Date:
Wed, 2011-06-01
May 30th, 2011, 12:00 am >> [EuroNanoForum 2011 takes place at the Budapest Congress and World Trade Center. The venue is situated close to the center of Budapest at Jagelló út 1-3, Budapest, H-1123.] >> contact: [nfo@euronanoforum2011.eu]

EuroNanoForum is a biannual event organised within the framework of the Presidency of the European

Union. EuroNanoForum 2011 will be the fifth event in this series, and will take place under the Hungarian

Presidency at the Budapest Congress and World Trade Center from 30th May to 1st June 2011.

EuroNanoForum 2011 has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme

(FP7/2007-2013) and the National Office for Research and Technology in Hungary.

EuroNanoForum 2011 reveals how nanotechnology can contribute to solving the grand challenges of our

time. The event covers research breakthroughs, industrial innovations and the societal impact of

nanotechnology.

For the first time, EuroNanoForum is joining forces with Nanotech Europe, a leading European

nanotechnology event produced by Spinverse, to provide a single meeting point for the whole

nanotechnology community.

The three-day event includes a full conference program, an extensive exhibition and effective

matchmaking, ensuring attendees will be able to network with leading industrial, research and political

decision makers.

Herbert von Bose, Director of the Industrial Technologies Programme, at the European Commission points

to the fact that “Europe needs to take advantage of the enormous potential that new nanotechnologies

hold in order to ensure our competitiveness and continued growth. It is essential that the different

nanotechnology players, from scientists to consumers, actively collaborate and develop new processes and

products in a responsible manner.

EuroNanoForum plays a major role in facilitating such collaboration. Europe need not only excellent science

but has to take full advantage of its results. ENF2011 is further very timely placed to discuss the vision for

the future, including the Innovation Union initiative.”

Dr. István Vadász, Vice President of Hungary’s National Office for Research and Technology (NKTH) states

that “Hungary has a long tradition of excellence in science. Our locally grown nanotechnology SMEs are

building international recognition in their fields of expertise, while our researchers explore further

promising avenues. Bringing together key scientific and industrial actors is as relevant as ever for Europe.

EuroNanoForum 2011 aims to inspire collaborations to meet Europe’s grand challenges and lead the

nanotechnology era.”

Pekka Koponen, CEO of Spinverse, adds that “We originally established Nanotech Europe to bring research

and industry together in order to stimulate the commercial development of nanotechnology. The

combination of EuroNanoForum and Nanotech Europe comes as an opportune time as we see the

industrial relevance of nanotechnology on target to increase substantially over the coming years.”
